What UL 61730 covers
Construction and safety qualification of a PV module — insulation, fire, mechanical load, and the tests that keep a panel electrically safe over its life. UL 3700 references UL 61730 (as 61730-1 and 61730-2) for the panels in a kit.
Why it matters for balcony solar
The panel is the one part of a plug-in system with deep, competitive supply. Modern modules carry UL 61730; a lot of surplus and older inventory still carries UL 1703.
The common mix-up
UL 1703 is the older module standard UL 61730 replaces. It is still valid and still common on existing inventory, but it is NOT in UL 3700's reference chain — so if a kit's UL 3700 claim depends on its modules, a UL 1703 panel is worth a second look.
